Prof. Dennis Lo presented the latest research progress.

Visit of the Financial Secretary

Mr. John Tsang, Financial Secretary of HKSAR, and Mr. Michael Stone, Secretary-General of the University Grants Committee (UGC), visited the Centre for Research into Circulating Fetal Nucleic Acids situated in the Li Ka Shing Institute of Health Sciences.

The Centre, led by Professor Dennis Lo, Li Ka Shing Professor of Medicine, CUHK, is devoted to the study of the biology and diagnostic applications of cell-free fetal nucleic acids in maternal plasma. This Centre was selected as one of the two projects funded under the 4th Round of the UGC Areas of Excellence Scheme in September 2007.

During the visit, the team presented the latest progress in their research, as well as demonstrated several state-of-the-art technologies applied in the research, such as the use of mass spectrometry for plasma DNA analysis and an ultra-high throughput microfluidics DNA amplification system.
