We as medical researchers at LiHS believe that we have a critical role to play in contributing to the quality life of the populace through scientific research that is readily transferrable to clinical applications and of direct relevance to the community.

As the founding director of LiHS, I see both great challenges and potential ahead in leading this pioneering research institute to chart a new course in medical research for the University, the Hong Kong community, and the wider Asian region.

To this end, a clear positioning for the Institute at the outset is of fundamental importance. It should be more than an institutional structure, a research premise with state-of-the-art equipment, and an agent to distribute resources, but should also provide leadership in developing an environment that sustains scientific innovations and reinforces the transdisciplinary nature of research in health sciences.

Since its establishment in 2007, the Li Ka Shing Institute of Health Sciences has been a cornerstone of innovation in biomedical sciences, translating scientific discoveries into clinical solutions that benefit patients and the community.

I am deeply honoured to take up the directorship, succeeding Founding Director Professor Dennis Lo, whose visionary leadership transformed the Institute into a global hub of innovation and excellence. I am committed to steering the Institute toward new frontiers of scientific and societal impact.

Throughout the years, our investigators continue to earn international recognition for groundbreaking work across diverse fields of health sciences, achieving notable milestones for continued excellence.

With unwavering support from the Li Ka Shing Foundation and the state-of-the-art facilities in the Institute, we are committed to advancing cutting-edge research to address evolving global health needs. Together with our dedicated researchers and scientists, LiHS will continue to nurture the next generation of leaders, to drive scientific innovation and to deliver transformative change in health worldwide.
